Beginners/Improvers Photography Courses
Tel Aviv: Starts Sun, 2nd March, 09.45 - 12.15

For beginners and experienced photographers who want to improve and take more creative pictures.

Courses consists of 5 sessions of 2 1/2 hrs each, once per week  

Course Topics
A brief history of photography
Essential camera settings, menus, modes, file types 
Tips on using your camera more effectively and creatively
Tom's B.A.S.I.C steps to taking good pictures
Taking pictures of children, tips and tricks
Developing visual awareness, exercises and advice 
Using your imagination to improve a picture
Tips on practical camera creatively
How to assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your pictures
Telling a story with your pictures
Making basic improvements to your pictures in the computer
Keeping track of your digital pictures
Emailing pictures
Sharing albums of your pictures on the Web

There will be practical exercises during the course, and fun assignments between sessions. 

Any digital camera can be used - compact or SLR. 
You will need access to a computer with a basic photo editing program such as Picasa (download free from Google).

Cost: 650NIS AACI members, 700NIS non-members.

Exhibit Your Pictures!

AACI Photography Exhibition 2014

All AACI members and their families are invited to submit their pictures for an exciting new exhibition at the AACI Netanya .... 

The only criterion for exhibition is that the pictures must have been taken on a mobile phone. Novices and pro’s welcome.

You don’t need to own a camera to submit entries:
All you need is a mobile phone.
(Even the simplest mobile phones have a camera function)


The exhibition opens on Monday 31st March. 

The final date for submissions is Sunday 23rd February.

Pictures will be printed on A4 Kappa and chosen images will cost approximately NIS 25 per image.
(Images from Instagram are accepted.)

The 2014 AACI exhibition will be very different! Tell your children and grandchildren, invite them to submit images and join the photographic fun at Netanya AACI

Photoshop - Digital Darkroom Course

Experience the joy and creativity of being able to creatively improve your pictures in the "Digital Darkroom".

This course is for enthusiasts who want to rediscover the lost arts of creatively crafting a picture and bringing it to life.

5 weekly sessions of 2.5 hrs each.

Topics
Setting up the Digital Darkroom in Photoshop  
How to open and save pictures
File formats: PSD, PDF, RAW, JPG, GIF, PNG and Colour spaces
File resolution, resizing, optimising for the web

Using the Layers Palette, Adjustment Layers, Layer Masks
Digital darkroom brushes
Making freehand and auto selections

Extending the canvass, cropping, adding borders
Essential shortcuts
Using History
 and undo shortcuts
Using the healing brush and clone stamp

Sharpening and creative blurring

Colour correcting 
Combining two or images together

Using the Warp Tool
Setting up and using a Wacom tablet and pen



Bring a laptop (or share one) with a recent version of Photoshop: CS2 -CS6.
NB: Photoshop Elements is not suitable for this course.

Photography Field Trip to Jaffa 

For beginners and experienced photographers who want to take their photography a step further.

Field trips are a wonderful way to enjoy a day out with your camera, meet other enthusiasts, and develop your skills.

Tom will be on hand throughout the day to give practical advice to help you get the most from your camera and to develop your photography skills. 

Timetable: 10am - 4pm
10am: We meet at the Clock Tower in old Jaffa. Tom will give some helpful tips of how to take better pictures and get the most from the day. 

We walk to the nearby church - this area is full of pictorial opportunities.
Tom will circulate and give helpful tips and advice,

We then have a gentle stroll down to the port area. Tom will be on hand to help with your photography.

12 - 1pm: Break for lunch. There are many cafes and restaurants to choose from. 

1 - 2pm: We take a stroll through the Flea Market and at 2pm  meet at a local cafe. During refreshments Tom will download a selection of your pictures to his laptop. 

2.30 - 4pm: Tom will give feedback about the day's photography in his own practical and informative style. This is a very popular part of the day: You be given tips on how you can advance, see the pictures that others have taken, and benefit from the advice they receive too.

Cost: 120 NIS 

(Lunch, refreshments, and travel are not included)
